How No Nits works

Getting rid of head lice properly isn't complicated but it does need to be done thoroughly, and it helps to understand why we do things the way we do. Here's exactly what happens when you book with us, and the biology behind why a follow-up matters.

Our head lice treatment in simple steps.

Our head lice treatment in simple steps.

01

Book Online

Tell us who needs treating and where. Takes 2 minutes, and your appointment is confirmed on payment. You can see all the suburbs we treat HERE.

02

We Come to You

A trained specialist arrives at your home, fully equipped. All we ask is that the persons hair is damp and brushed with no knots or product.

03

Our Combing Technique

Using a conditioning treatment and a professional comb, we work through the hair section by section, from the scalp out, removing lice and eggs as we go.

04

Clear Next Steps

Before we leave, we'll tell you exactly what we found, what we treated, and what to look out for including when to book your follow-up or do the treatment again yourself.

Understanding the head lice lifecycle

Understanding the head lice lifecycle

Knowing how head lice actually develop is the key to understanding why our process works the way it does.

Egg (nit)

Laid firmly against the hair shaft, close to the scalp where it's warm enough to incubate. Eggs are brown (egg casings look white on hair). They are hard to spot, as they are often the same colour as the hair.

Nymph

A baby louse that hatches from the egg. It looks like a smaller version of an adult and starts feeding on the scalp straight away.

Adult

Within around 10 days of hatching, a nymph matures into an adult capable of laying its own eggs and the cycle starts again, hence why it's important to do a treatment again.

Why a follow-up treatment matters

Why a follow-up treatment matters

Why a follow-up treatment matters

There's always the possibility that head lice can get caught again from a friend, or whoever you might have infected, after your first treatment.

A follow up treatment 5-7 days after your initial appointment ensures that any babies or eggs missed have not had time to mature, mate and begin the cycle again. If an egg was missed, it will have hatched by this point, but the newly hatched louse won't yet be mature enough to lay eggs of its own. Catching it at this stage breaks the cycle completely, before it has a chance to start over.

How head lice actually spread

How head lice actually spread

Head lice don't jump, fly, or live long away from a human scalp. They spread through direct head-to-head contact only, which is why they move so easily between kids who play closely together, and why reinfestation can happen through no fault of the original treatment.
