Head lice don't check a school calendar before they show up. One student comes back from camp, a preschooler shares a dress-up box, a boarding house has forty girls sharing bathrooms and hairbrushes - and within a week, a single case has become a whole-cohort problem. For principals, boarding house staff, welfare coordinators and preschool directors, a fast, professional, whole-of-cohort response is the difference between a contained issue and a term-long outbreak.
That's where No Nits comes in.
A dedicated head lice service for schools, preschools and boarding houses
No Nits provides mobile, on-site head lice checks and treatment for schools, preschools, and boarding houses across Sydney — including some of the most prestigious boarding houses in the state. Our trained specialists come to you, check every student in a cohort or boarding house, and treat on the spot anyone who needs it.
Unlike a single-family home visit, our institutional service is built around groups: full classes, full year levels, full boarding houses. It's the same proven combing technique that's treated thousands of Sydney families since 2016 — just scaled to work efficiently across a school or residential setting.
How a school or boarding house visit works
Book a visit
Whether it's a scheduled twice-yearly boarding house check, a response to a reported outbreak, or an ad-hoc preschool screening, we work with your Student Welfare Coordinator, Year Advisor, Director of Boarding, or preschool director to find a time that fits your school calendar.
We check every student
Our specialists perform a thorough head lice check on every student in the group — quickly, discreetly, and without singling anyone out. Group bookings for schools and boarding houses require a minimum of 20 people per visit.
We treat anyone who needs it
Hair checks are provided as standard. If a student is found to have head lice or eggs, treatment is carried out immediately using our combing technique - no separate appointment, no sending a note home and hoping it gets actioned.
We report back
We provide a clear summary for your welfare team so you know exactly how many students were checked, how many were treated, and what to communicate to families if needed.
Why boarding houses need a different approach
Boarding houses face a level of head lice risk that day schools simply don't. Shared bathrooms, shared common rooms, close living quarters, and constant contact between students during term create ideal conditions for head lice to spread quickly through a whole house. A single missed case at the start of term can become a house-wide issue by week three.
That's why we recommend a structured approach for boarding houses: a scheduled check at the start of each term (or twice yearly, at minimum) plus the ability to respond quickly if a case is reported mid-term. Many of the country's leading boarding schools already build this into their routine health and wellbeing calendar - because prevention is far less disruptive than managing an outbreak after the fact.
Preschools and early learning centres
Preschools and early learning centres have their own version of this challenge. Young children are in close physical contact all day story time on the mat, dress-ups, nap time and head lice checks in this age group need a particularly gentle, unhurried approach. Our specialists are experienced working with young children and know how to make a head lice check feel like a normal, low-stress part of the day rather than something to be anxious about.
A word on school exclusion policy
One thing worth knowing: in NSW, a child does not need to be excluded from school or preschool if treatment for head lice begins promptly. This is a helpful fact for schools communicating with families - a positive check doesn't need to mean a day off. It just means treatment needs to happen, and happen properly.
Honest, thorough, no false promises
As with all of our services, we don't offer a guarantee that head lice won't return - re-infestation can happen from a single missed egg, a shared hat, or head-to-head contact with someone outside the checked group. What we do guarantee is a thorough, professional check of every student, immediate treatment for anyone affected, and clear reporting your school or boarding house can rely on.
